First day at uni for the semester and I'm already reading through a paper that I need for a piece of assessment due on Wednesday. It's a strange assignment that seems unrelated to the actual course and as far as I can tell, the only point of it is to convince us that the lecture method used in this course is more effective than other methods of instruction; the assignment is on teaching and learning methods. The subject is biomedical instrumentation.

I just gave my EAP students a text summary to do with the question 'what are the arguments in favour of using the Academic Word List in an EAP programme?', which served the dual purposes of a suitable text for them to summarise, AND a bit of 'you should use the extra AWL resources I give you' propaganda.
At least, it would have served that purpose, if they had managed to actually understand the article and answer the question...
In short. I approve of your lecturer's methods.
